About the event
Jazz and the blues come from the same musical origins and the blues have always been a key part of jazz music. Jazz has expanded the basic blues sound and many blues artists like B B King, Bonnie Raitt, Robben Ford, Keb Mo, etc use the sounds of jazz to add interest and variety to their performances.
In this workshop we’ll start with the most basic scales and add Jazz inspired notes one step at a time without requiring a lot of music theory. You’ll also see how and why scales you are already using (like the pentatonic) work the way they do. In a short time you’ll be playing some pretty far out sounds that you can use to create your own style. You’ll have your instrument in hand the whole time applying what you are learning.
You’ll leave the workshop with all progressions and scale diagrams we cover so you can use them in the future.
Level: For advanced beginner or intermediate musicians with an open mind about music and an interest in improvising. A familiarity with basic chord and scales is required. An ability to understand music notation is helpful but not required.
