About the event

Paul Loether is a left-handed folk singer/songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist whose expressive vocals cover a broad range of traditional and contemporary folk music—from Stephen Foster, Elizabeth Cotton, Woody Guthrie, and Pete Seeger to Tom Paxton, Bill Staines, Carrie Newcomer, and John McCutcheon; see: Boob on our TV - John McCutcheon cover (youtube.com). His usually topical originals are well-crafted and often feature pointed and humorous lyrics. Over the past three decades, Paul has performed as a solo artist throughout southern New England and the Washington, DC, area. For many years, he was a lead vocalist, guitarist, and stand-up bass player for the Chesapeake Bay-area band, Silver Strings MD. This will be Paul’s sixth “Sweet-Saturday Nights” appearance at Nightingale’s.

David Coller has been writing and performing in the folk genre since his teens (which, he will tell you, means a VERY long time). He earned a BA degree in music from the University of Southern California before moving east to a career in the medical world. But he continued to play in bands, duos, and as a solo performer in southern California and after that, in Connecticut--until first being waylaid by a wooden boat… and then by COVID purgatory. He is now “playing out” again, mostly in New England, with the odd foray to the west coast. David brings with him a variety of new songs: straight-up folk, jazzy tunes that feel like standards, a bit of bluegrass, and some sea-songs, performed on the guitar, banjo, and the odd bit of button accordion (see: Sally Ann (youtube.com)

Diane Chodkowski caught the folk-music bug in 6th grade when a teacher sang folk songs of that era. She lived in NYC in the 80’s during the Fast Folk singer-songwriter scene, where she was surrounded by amazing musicians; she had the great privilege of singing harmony and recording with some of them, including Hugh Blumenfeld (former CT State Troubadour), Richard Shindell and Peter Yarrow. In the 90’s she was a member of the female trio Madwoman in the Attic, known for their original songs and tight harmonies. When she’s not singing harmony, you can find her at open mikes doing her own thing (see: Tucson (youtube.com)).  This will be the trio's second appearance at Nightingale's for 2024.

Parking is readily available along adjacent Lyme Street. Refreshments will also be available.  Seating is limited; advance ticket purchase strongly  recommended.
